Frequently Asked Questions

Conservation Champion

A: As a Conservation Champion, you’ll have the help of our staff with recruitment, mentorship, and event planning. We can also help you plan the logistics of your events such as partner communications and booking transportation. Upon being selected as a Conservation Champion, you’ll also receive a Community Resource Kit, which will be equipped with a first aid kit, activity kit, binoculars, compass, gardening gloves, etc. You'll have everything you need to get started!

A: No, we do not expect you to purchase your own program supplies. We will provide you with financial support to cover event supplies and travel costs.

A: As part of our support to you and to provide a more meaningful experience for both you as a Conservation Champion and the Stewards attending your events, we will provide you with Leadership, Facilitation and other training opportunities that can be added to your resume.

A: We require that Conservation Champions be prepared to commit to at least two events per month (15 to 20 hours per month in total), however, you are more than welcome to do as many events as you’d like. Each event will be subject to a risk assessment to assure that it matches the CCC Flex program’s goals, objects, safety precautions and budget, so plan accordingly. Service hours can be earned for all program involvement, including time spent planning as well as leading events. Multiple Champions in a community can also share these responsibilities.

Conservation Steward

A: It depends on your Champion(s), but at minimum, we strive to offer at least two CCC flex events a month. You will be able to contact your Champion to keep updated on upcoming events.

A: Much like the main CCC program, we try to make CCC Flex as barrier-free as possible. There are no educational requirements to join the program, but you must be between the ages of 18 to 30. You will also need to be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

We do require all members of the CCC Flex program be willing to provide a criminal record check upon selection. You will be reimbursed for any fees required for your criminal record check. While First Aid Certification, Outdoor Council of Canada Field Leader Certification and other outdoor-related certification are encouraged, they are not required.

A: CCC Flex events will typically range from two to eight hours in length and won’t host any overnight events. Most events will be locally based unless stated otherwise by your Champion. For events not locally based, transportation arrangements can be made by our staff and will be near enough for a round-trip to be completed in less than a day.

A: While we encourage you to gain as much volunteer experience as possible, you don’t have to attend every event. We understand you may have other commitments such as work, school or family. To respect your time, events will be planned around the availability of local members. If you sign up for CCC flex midway through the year, you won’t be behind. Events are on-going throughout the year, and everyone is welcome!

A: Absolutely! CCC Flex is a great way for you to get a taste of what the CCC program is all about. Alternatively, if you have finished the three Stages of your CCC journey, CCC Flex is an excellent way to keep in touch with the community and continue to make a positive impact on the environment.
