The Canadian Wildlife Federation would like to acknowledge that the land on which our main office is located is the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People. The Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We are grateful to have the opportunity to be present in this territory. CWF honours all First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and their valuable past and present contributions to this land.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does my Adopt-an-Animal purchase help wildlife in Canada?

You can help support CWF and wildlife in Canada by purchasing your very own Adopt-an-Animal kit. $20 from every adopt a species purchase funds our work on species at risk. Funds from there are disbursed based on current priorities and the timing parameters of specific programs.

How much of my donation is spent on fundraising and administrative costs?

Please know, we are very proud of the work we are able to do and how good we are at stretching a dollar to make the most impact. Freshwater and marine conservation, endangered species recovery and conservation education are some key areas of CWF programming.

We report our charitable spending at 75%, 6% administration and 19% fundraising expenses. Here is a link to CWF non-consolidated financial statements.

How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from CWF?

While our direct mail gifts remain an important source of donations for CWF, we understand that they do not appeal to all our donors.

We do not want to send you anything you don’t want to receive. Would you like us to reduce the amount of mail we send to you? Please send us an email with your name and address and let us know how often you’d like to hear from CWF!

What is CWF’s policy on hunting?

The CWF policy on hunting generally is similar to other conservation organizations in that we do not support the wasteful use of wildlife but we do recognize sustainable use as an important wildlife management tool and an important part of Canada's socio-cultural heritage.

CWF's focus is on conservation science, stewardship and education. We work primarily on federal policies and programs, such as the Species at Risk Act.

What is the Canadian Wildlife Foundation?

The Canadian Wildlife Foundation is a national not-for-profit charitable foundation dedicated to supporting the programs, projects and initiatives of the Canadian Wildlife Federation through special events, sponsorships, donations and major gifts. The Foundation also manages a number of endowments targeted at conservation education and research taking place across the country.

There are so many ways you can make a difference to the kind of legacy we leave behind… not just for wildlife, but also for our children. Help CWF ensure a healthy future for Canada’s wildlife. Learn more: CanadianWildlifeFoundation.org.
