Welcome to Oceans Day. This unit's theme is the global aquatic ecosystem. Through the materials in this educational package, your students will explore how all the planet's watery bodies, both salt and fresh, link together in one huge and complex aquatic ecosystem. They will also discover how their everyday actions can help or harm our oceans — whether they hail from a Canadian prairie or a Solomon Islands' sea coast. We're sure it will inspire you and your students to become enthusiastic stewards of our amazing oceans.
- The Global Aquatic Ecosystem
All land is divided into watersheds — that is, areas of land that drain into particular bodies of water. - Why Should You Make Waves for Oceans
A whopping 80 per cent of ocean pollution comes from human activities on land and poses risks to human health and the environment. - Leçon : The Great Round-Table Debate
Students role-play a round-table discussion about human use of a local watershed. - International Action Can Make Waves for Oceans
Ocean pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, and loss of biodiversity are problems too serious and complicated for any country to tackle on its own. - Canadian Action Makes Waves for Oceans
Environmental problems not only cross national boundaries, but also the boundaries between federal and provincial jurisdictions. - Your Actions Can Make Waves for Oceans
