Quon, age 17, has already been a school environmental leader for five years. Among her activities, she helped organize a school garden and led an effort to buy and operate a beehive there. After attending an experience-based youth leadership program called Metro Vancouver Sustainability Toolbox in the summer of 2017, she started Sprout-Save-Share, a group that minimizes waste and promotes youth environmentalism by collecting unsellable end-of-day food from bakeries to donate to people in need. Thousands have benefitted from the group’s efforts.
