Hon. Blaine Pedersen enjoying Manitoba’s vibrant fisheries.
The Honorable Blaine Pedersen
Elm Creek, Manitoba
First elected as the MLA for the Manitoba constituency of Midland in 2007, Blaine Pedersen is now Minister of Agriculture and Resource Development.
Thirty years a farmer and long an avid outdoorsman, he has been active in nature his whole life. Since taking on the Agriculture and Resource Development portfolio in 2019, Min. Pedersen has undertaken several key initiatives, each of which should show conservation benefits lasting for generations. These include promoting three recently established trusts with investments totalling more than $200 million in endowments to generate ongoing funding for conservation projects. His department is also piloting reforms to the funding and operation of Manitoba’s Wildlife Management Areas. Further, since Manitoba is “the land of 100,000 lakes,” Min. Pedersen has introduced significant reforms to the regulations governing the province’s sizable commercial fishery and recently launched a new strategy to modernize angling regulations and be a leader in recreational fisheries management. Working closely with stakeholder groups, Min. Pedersen’s stated aim is to make Manitoba’s among the most sustainable freshwater fisheries in North America and a popular destination for outdoor recreation.
