If your little one is stubbornly sticking it out in there, I’m sure you’re getting impatient. Every movement you make is an effort. You can’t tie your shoelaces. You are more than ready to give birth to this baby who seems to be a heck of a lot more comfortable in there than their mama!
But it could be worse! Here are some animals who aren’t likely to give birth any time soon!!
- Narwhals are pregnant for 14 long months. Females give birth to their calves one at a time and nurses their young for 20 months.
- Walruses have a gestation period of 15 months. Females will move onto land or ice to give birth to their calves.
- Killer whales are pregnant for a whopping 17 months! Luckily they calve only once every five years to give them a break between pregnancies.
- Belugas have a gestation period of 14.5 months. One calf will be born at about 1.5 metres long.
- Harbour porpoises are pregnant for 10 to 11 months. The calves will stick close to their mothers to nurse for at least eight months.
