All the wrapping paper, tags and trimmings involved in gift giving makes for a lot of wasted paper come Christmas morning, after the kids have torn apart their presents. With this bow tutorial, you can have an eco-friendly holiday while wowing your tikes in just 12 minutes flat.
Tools:
- One page from WILD magazine
- Double-sided tape
- A pencil
- A pair of scissors
- A ruler
Step 1.Measuring with your ruler width-wise across the top and bottom of the page, mark every 2 centimetres with pencil. The marks should line up vertically and will come in handy when you start cutting.
Step 2.Line up your ruler with the markings and draw vertical lines.
Step 3.Cut along the lines. You should have nine strips of paper (including a spare in case of a slip up).
Step 4.Take three of the strips and set them aside.
Step 5.Take another three strips and cut off 2.5 cm. Set aside.
Step 6.Take two strips and cut off 5 cm. Set aside.
Step 7.Take one strip and cut it 9 cm long. Set aside.
Step 8.You’ve still got one left. If you’re feeling lucky, discard it; but if you’re extra cautious, keep it on hand in case of a slip up.
|
|
Step 9.Starting with the longest strips, take a strip and hold it with your fingers in the middle of the strip. Place your free hand at the top of the strip and loop forward and around to the back of the strip, securing it with tape. |
Step 10.At the bottom of the same strip, loop it forward and around to the back of the strip on the opposite side, securing it with tape. Congrats! The hard part’s over!
Step 11.Repeat steps nine and ten for each strip (except the shortest). You should have eight of them now!
Step 12.Pick up the shortest strip and bend it into a circle. Secure with tape.
Step 13.Let’s make a bow! Take the three longest pieces and arrange them into the shape of a bow, securing with tape as each piece is added. Don’t over think it. They should pretty much fall into place all on their own. This is the base of the bow.
Step 14.Repeat step 13 with the next largest pieces.
Step 15.Repeat step 13 with the last two pieces.
Step 16.Place the midsized bow on top of the base and secure with tape.
Step 17.Add the smallest bow on top and secure with tape.
|
|
Step 18.Place tape on the circular strip and secure in the middle of the bow. Now secure to a present and presto! Coolest present under the tree! |
