As humans continue to build cities, towns, and suburbs, more and more wild creatures become homeless. The meadows, forests, plains, and wetlands that wildlife species depend on are disappearing at a shocking rate.
You can help solve this housing crisis in a number of ways. Build a roost for bats, a nesting box for birds, a garden shelter for toads, or a log-pile habitat for beetles, spiders, and snails, and turn your backyard or community into a magnet for wildlife. With the help of the projects in this chapter, you'll soon discover the many rewards of building a better habitat for Canada's wildlife.
Keep in mind that most of the "Build for Wildlife" projects, such as "Build a Bat House" and "Build an Amphibian Pond", work equally well as community projects. Also note that many of the measurements are given in feet and inches (as well as in centimetres), since building materials continue to be sold in imperial units.
