Pollinator Meadow Monitoring Results

These projects restore meadow habitat for Monarch butterflies. And through that focus, for other native pollinators too. Monarch butterflies breed throughout eastern and southern Ontario. CWF partners with many organizations in these areas, providing funding to habitat restoration projects that benefit these important insects.

Bees, flies, butterflies, moths, beetles, hummingbirds and even small mammals are pollinators, meaning they carry pollen on their bodies and move it between flowers. This almost invisible act occurs millions of times each day and creates a third of our food. It also sustains the native plants and habitats on which humans and wildlife depend.

Restoring wildflower meadows requires large quantities of wildflower seeds, sourced as locally as possible. As the desire to restore blooming meadows increases in Canada, so does the demand for native seeds. Currently, the supply of local native seed is out-paced by seeding requirements, and is not consistently available across the country.
