Roadside maintenance of many municipalities in Eastern Ontario includes boom spraying, and/or regular mowing to control invasive plants. But what is the impact on pollinators? As more rights-of-way managers embark on restoration activities, assessment of the restoration process with respect to the native plant community is an important element of project evaluations. Join this webinar to learn from CWF’s Restoration Ecologist, Tracey Etwell for the results of the first year of monitoring for CWF’s Rights-of-Way Habitat Restoration Program in Eastern Ontario. Across North America, pollinator populations are declining and loss of meadow wildflower habitat is a primary reason for this decline. Rights-of-Way (roadsides, utility corridors, solar farms) offer a unique opportunity for supporting pollinators.

Monarchs Need the Right of Way

The US government’s recent decision not to list the Monarch Butterfly under the Endangered Species Act means that more citizens and corporations on both sides of the border need to work together to build pollinator pathways along critical migratory corridors. Although they won’t be listing this species under the Endangered Species Act in the immediate future, the US government has signed unprecedented voluntary conservation agreements with rights-of-way entities to help recover the Monarch. <p></p><p> </p>
