Texas Department of Transportation Wildflower Program

The Texas Department of Transportation has been implementing vegetation management practices in support of pollinators since 1932. From then on, the department has developed a comprehensive wildflower program, particularly in recognition of the state as a key stopover during Monarch migration. Hear from Sam Glinsky, Vegetation Specialist, to learn more about the lifecycle of a Texas roadside, the benefits of the program beyond the road, and the public education and stewardship practices they follow!

Action for Pollinators

Bees, flies, butterflies, moths, beetles, hummingbirds and even small mammals are pollinators, meaning they carry pollen on their bodies and move it between flowers. This almost invisible act occurs millions of times each day and creates a third of our food. It also sustains the native plants and habitats on which humans and wildlife depend.

Rights-of-Way Habitat Networks

Across North America, pollinator populations are declining and loss of meadow wildflower habitat is a primary reason for this decline. Rights-of-Way (roadsides, utility corridors, solar farms) offer a unique opportunity for supporting pollinators.

Native Pollinator Habitat Restoration

These projects restore meadow habitat for Monarch butterflies. And through that focus, for other native pollinators too. Monarch butterflies breed throughout eastern and southern Ontario. CWF partners with many organizations in these areas, providing funding to habitat restoration projects that benefit these important insects.
