Tracey Etwell is a Restoration Ecologist on the Rights-of-Way and Grasslands Project Team at Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) and has been lucky enough make studying plants and animals her career! At CWF, Tracey is currently working on a project to help restore pollinator meadows for native bees and monarch butterflies in eastern Ontario. Join Tracey to find out “what’s the buzz” on pollinators, learn more about CWF’s work to restore pollinator habitat, and discover how you can help create your own piece of pollinator-friendly habitat in your backyard, school yard or community garden.

Action for Pollinators

Bees, flies, butterflies, moths, beetles, hummingbirds and even small mammals are pollinators, meaning they carry pollen on their bodies and move it between flowers. This almost invisible act occurs millions of times each day and creates a third of our food. It also sustains the native plants and habitats on which humans and wildlife depend.

Rights-of-Way Habitat Networks

Across North America, pollinator populations are declining and loss of meadow wildflower habitat is a primary reason for this decline. Rights-of-Way (roadsides, utility corridors, solar farms) offer a unique opportunity for supporting pollinators.

Monarch Habitat Science & the Monarch Ambassadors

Monarch butterflies migrate yearly between their overwintering grounds in Mexico and their breeding grounds across the United States and Canada. In late summer, monarchs in Ontario begin their 3,000 km journey south to Mexico. Unlike the spring migration north, the fall migration is undertaken by a single generation of butterflies.
