Join the Canadian Wildlife Federation and friends for a Totally Wild Webinar. Sail away with us to the Gaspé Peninsula, where high school students are building sail boats as part of an exciting new initiative that teaches science, math, history, geography and best practices on the water.

LIVE FROM THE MONTREAL BOAT SHOW AS WELL AS NEW CARLISLE HIGH SCHOOL

Sail away with us to the Gaspé Peninsula, where high school students are  building sail boats as part of an exciting new initiative that teaches science, math, history, geography and best practices on the water. This unique project is endorsed by the Canadian Wildlife Federation and world champion sailor Damian Foxall, CWF's Recreation Education Manager. In the first webinar, you will join Foxall at the Montreal Boat Show where he will connect virtually with New Carlisle High School about 870 kilometres northeast of Montreal. As host of the webinar Foxall will introduce you  to the Committee for Anglophone Social Action (CASA), Project Coordinator Anthony Beer, and  young members of the small English community who are constructing a one-person Optimist Sailboat and a three-person Mirror Sailboat.   This CWF webinar, offered through Adobe Connect,  will be the first in a series featuring the students building their sailboats and exploring the impact this project has on the broader community. There is no fee for classrooms to participate in the webinar, which will primarily be offered in English and is geared towards a high school level.

Please note: THE BUILD reflects the Sail Québec strategy to develop a provincial sailing education program with a cross-curricular learning strategy. Key supporters of the project include the Ecovoile Baie-des-Chaleurs sailing school.  Through this project youth will come to appreciate the Regatta emphasis of learning rather than winning while mastering new skills and a deeper understanding of racing rules of sailing, codes of conduct and conservation. A film documentary about this project is also planned. For more information about CWF's role visit WildAboutSports.ca.
