Curious Creatures
Mice, rats, moles, voles, shrews… some may feel they are creepy little critters. Or are they? While some of our small mammals are unwelcome when they invade our houses or chew up the garden, many are of great benefit. And when you get right down to it, they’re actually quite interesting!
Prevalent Prey
Small mammals can be seen all across the Canadian landscape, including urban expanses. Many of these small critters are able to make their home underground, burrowing beneath the surface for safety. Their ease of finding underground habitat is the reason we are able to see small mammals scurrying around so much more than the larger wildlife in Canada; larger wildlife require a much greater expanse of land and shelter.
A Helping Habitat
Despite the ease of habitat location throughout the landscape, small mammals are the choice prey for almost all larger species in Canada. They have to rely on instincts for survival and habitat location is so important. Learn more about what you could add to your space to help provide a safe habitat for these small mammals.
