Nominations are now being accepted for the Canadian Conservation Achievement Awards, a national recognition program which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2018. There are nine award categories to highlight the contributions of volunteers, professionals and projects dedicated to environmental stewardship

More than 20,000 Canadians have signed the Canadian Wildlife Federation plastics reduction petition so far. CWF is thanking all the Canadians who’ve supported the campaign to stop single use plastics, implement the sustainable packaging legislation and keep our oceans cleaner. Read more about the petition and join us in reducing frivolous plastics, like straws, water bottles and coffee cup lids, from ending up in our oceans.

Purchase a bat house from the Canadian Wildlife Federation and help protect these warm-blooded mammals. Bats are vital to the health of our environment and economy. They eat thousands of insects, pollinate flowers, and spread seeds that grow new plants and trees. Nov. 28 is #GivingTuesday and the Canadian Wildlife Federation appreciates all charitable donations big and small. CWF is launching its annual holiday fundraising drive early, so Canadians can give a gift to wildlife this holiday season. The adopt an animal program is highlighted in this year’s campaign, with many species available and proceeds directed to conservation.

A diverse range of organizations from across the country will be meeting in Kananaskis, AB Nov. 28 to Dec. 1 to discuss new approaches for the conservation of fish, wildlife and biodiversity. The summit will focus on four critical themes needed to address key conservation challenges such as a changing climate or cumulative impacts across a landscape/seascape. The themes are:

• Thinking bigger and broader

• Making wildlife and habitat conservation relevant to Canadians

• Building new partnerships for action on conservation

• Establishing new ways of financing conservation.

Once unimaginably abundant, this “umbrella species” is at tremendous risk. What we do now and for the next few years will either save or doom this extraordinary creature.
