OTTAWA, March 20, 2019 - The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) is pleased to see an expansion of the Canada Service Corps in the 2019 federal budget. This is good news for CWF’s innovative conservation programs for young Canadians aged 18-30. CWF is also pleased to see the government prioritize Canada Summer Jobs, which provides opportunities to young Canadians to gain valuable on-the-ground conservation experience and broadens the impact of our programs.
QUOTES
“Connecting Canadians to nature is one of CWF’s top priorities. By investing in youth programs like the Canada Service Corps and Canada Summer Jobs the federal government is inspiring conservation and helping develop future leaders. This is important for building a better Canada. In this budget, the Canada Service Corps has been allocated $314.8 million over five years, about three times the current commitment. This is a great win for young Canadians aged 18-30.” Rick Bates, CEO.
As a member of the Green Budget Coalition, CWF also welcomes federal government commitments to climate change action which is critical for the future of wildlife and biodiversity. The coalition's recommendations for the Budget 2019 can be found here.
